About Us

Welcome to our adventures!

The Cajun Explorers Story

Tommy & Danny, the Cajun Explorers, are a couple originally from south Louisiana and we live in Houston, Texas. We married in California in 2013 on our 30-year anniversary. So, December 2023 we’ve celebrated our 40th anniversary together!

Both recently retired, we are ready to end our normal whirlwind short vacations, where we always cram way too much travel into too little time. In 2023 we will begin our new adventures with a slower, more relaxed pace and enjoy places as locals, rather than tourists.

Some of our favorite things to experience during our journeys are cultural activities, music, antiquing, flea markets, food, cooking, and wine. We enjoy exploring and have traveled extensively in Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean islands. Proud of our Cajun culture, we frequently visit French speaking communities in honor of our heritage.

Although we are new to blogging, we wanted a way to bring along our friends and family as we discover beautiful places to visit. We’re also excited to share our travel tips with you.

We seek out budget friendly travel that provides for fun adventures and great experiences. Since we fly the world as non-revs (non-revenue) or “stand by” passengers, we only travel with carry-on luggage and never check a bag. So, we are very creative with our packing. Finally, all of the photos that we have taken to add to our site were taken with our iPhones and not a digital camera.

We invite you to join us, the Cajun Explorers, as we embark on our journey.

Just a little more about each of us…

Tommy was born in New Iberia, LA and is newly retired (2023). I enjoyed 32+ years of nonprofit work serving people with HIV/AIDS, seniors, and those impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia. My first trip to Europe was just after high school graduation. This ignited a passion that has endured throughout my life. I studied French in France and Belgium during college and enjoy exploring my Cajun roots and French heritage.

Danny was born in Raceland, LA, but grew up in Youngsville, LA. He was a flight attendant for 33 years with Continental Airlines and then with United Airlines after the merger. He retired during the COVID pandemic (2020). Danny’s first trip to Europe was when Tommy dragged him along. However, he now looks forward to our many adventures travelling together.

Together we are taking full advantage of Danny’s lifetime retiree travel benefits.
