The theme for Moody Gardens Ice Land 2022 is Caribbean Christmas. Haven’t ever been to Galveston, Texas to see this exhibit before? Evidently, it’s time for you to visit.
What is Ice Land at Moody Gardens?
An award-winning team of master ice carvers from Harbin, China flies into Houston each September to create the beautiful sculptures at Moody Gardens Ice Land. The team carves over 900 tons of ice and works over 1,000 hours to create beautiful, themed characters, animals, structures, and scenes.
This year’s theme is Caribbean Christmas. Although the Caribbean enjoys tropical temperatures, Ice Land is a constant 9 degrees.
Thankfully, they provide you with hooded coats to wear. Don’t forget to bring your gloves to wear as your hands will freeze if not protected.
These are a few of the ice sculptures. Everything you see was carved from blocks of ice and most were colored to represent the beautiful underwater world of coral, fish, and other wildlife.
We couldn’t resist Shivers Ice Bar. So, we had to spend time quenching our thirst by toasting with a shot of Fireball to warm us up. The tables and chairs to sit on were solid blocks of ice as well. Next year it’s Rainforest Christmas.
Festival of Lights
The Festival of Lights is a mile long trail of over two million lights, holiday music, and creative displays with beautiful views of Galveston Bay. The trail is a paved pathway that’s easy to navigate and there’s stops along the way for refreshments and shopping. It seems there’s something new to discover around each corner. A lot of the displays are animated, and some tell a story through lights and music such as the Twelve Days of Christmas show. I’ve created a short video to share our experience with you.
I hope you enjoyed traveling with us to Moody Gardens for Ice Land and Festival of Lights in Galveston, Texas. We’re looking forward to next year.
